Our Mission
To empower at-risk youth for successful living through effective mentoring relationships.
The Role of a Mentor
Social scientists tell us that the number one indicator of success for a child is a good relationship with a nurturing adult.
That's exactly what a mentor is: A responsible adult who has found a way to succeed in life and who cares enough to pass along the lessons he or she has learned.
The SUCCESS OMAHA mentoring program matches adult mentors with suitable young people based on interest and personality. As the adult and youth develop a good, positive relationship...wonderful things can happen.
The Impact of Mentoring
Youth involved in the mentoring experience gain confidence, show more interest in their activities and the world around them, and most important...begin to like themselves.
A recent survey showed these signs of success:
- Mentored youth are more than twice as likely to be promoted to the next grade
- Mentored youth are more than four times less likely to receive a disciplinary referral
- 70 percent of high school youth said their mentors helped them raise their goals and expectations
- 59 percent of mentored youth said their grades improved
- 87 percent of mentored youth said they benefited in some way from the relationship
Mentoring and The Omaha Home for Boys
Since 1920, the Home has helped generations of youth grow up to become responsible, contributing, fulfilled members of society.
The SUCCESS OMAHA mentoring program evolved naturally as the Home's experience with youth and their involvement in the community was combined.
You can be part of this exciting opportunity...making a difference in a young life.
