I’m sure you’ve heard the story of the man who was walking along the beach when he sees another person in the distance. The person is reaching down, picking something up and throwing it out into the ocean. 

As he gets closer he realizes he’s picking up starfish and throwing them into the water.  When asked why, he’s told that if the starfish aren’t put back into water they will die.

“Well, the beach is covered with starfish,” he tells the man, “there are far too many.  Throwing a few back won’t make any difference.”  The man reaches down, picks up another starfish, throws it into the water and says, “Made a difference to that one.”

That’s how I feel at The Omaha Home for Boys.  The needs of boys today are great – issues that as a young man I never dreamt of:  Abandonment, abuse, neglect, the list goes on and on and on.  And the children needing help are a lot like those starfish … they cover the beaches!  They’re in every city and town across the country!  And they need our help!

If I concentrate on the big picture, it’s easy to become overwhelmed.
