Ken Is
Motivated by New Challenges
Ken is a young man who has seen many setbacks in his life.
He was very far behind his peers in school when he came to the Home. It was first decided he should work toward his GED and begin a career as soon as possible, but when Ken started attending school regularly and received special tutoring at the Home, his life changed.
He found out he could learn anything he wanted to. Reading was extremely difficult for him, but it was also rewarding, and it was fun.
Ken lost interest in just getting his GED, he wants to finish school instead and graduate.
We are often told that the first few years of a child’s life are the most important in shaping what that young person will become. For Ken, this last year of his life has been the most significant in his development.
At eighteen, he has realized his future is in his own hands. The future is an open book and it doesn’t have to be like the past.
Ken took three classes in summer school and will finish his senior year next spring.
Besides mastering the 3 R’s, Ken spends time in the art room and he spent many hours helping to repair an old boat in the woodshop.
Working on the boat just happens to coincide with another new passion for Ken, fishing.
We hope Ken catches nothing but the big ones with his new found enthusiasm for life.
